Seoul — South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok has underscored artificial intelligence as a central pillar of the nation’s future economic strategy, describing the technology as a transformative force capable of reshaping industries and strengthening national competitiveness.
Speaking at a high-level government meeting attended by ministers from science, education, defense, health, interior and other key sectors, Kim said AI represents “a new growth engine” that will accelerate innovation and drive broad-based national transformation. He emphasized that the government’s approach will focus not only on technological advancement but also on ensuring that the benefits of AI development are distributed fairly across society.
“We will work to ensure the fruits of innovation are spread evenly under the vision of AI for all,” Kim stated, highlighting the administration’s commitment to inclusive growth as the country enters what it describes as a new technological era.
The Prime Minister also pointed to the policy direction of President Lee Jae-myung’s administration, which is prioritising large-scale investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure, research and development. As part of this strategy, the government has allocated approximately $6.8 billion in its proposed budget for next year to support AI-related initiatives, including innovation hubs, workforce training and next-generation digital systems
