Trump Accuses Ukraine of “Zero Gratitude” as Peace Talks Continue

United States President Donald Trump has accused Ukraine’s leadership of showing “zero gratitude” for his administration’s efforts to broker peace in the ongoing war with Russia, intensifying rhetoric as international negotiations continue over a proposed settlement framework.

In a strongly worded post on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, Trump claimed that Ukraine failed to acknowledge what he described as his administration’s significant push to end the conflict.

“I inherited a war that should have never happened… Ukraine ‘leadership’ has expressed zero gratitude for our efforts,” Trump wrote, asserting once again that the war would not have begun had he been in office at the time of Russia’s invasion.

Trump placed blame for the outbreak of hostilities on his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, arguing that Moscow perceived weakness in Washington as an opportunity to act. He claimed Russian President Vladimir Putin viewed Biden’s leadership as a “chance” to launch the military campaign against Ukraine.

Peace Plan Under Scrutiny

The remarks come as representatives from the United States, Europe and Ukraine participate in ongoing talks in Geneva focused on Trump’s proposed 28-point peace plan. While the initiative has been framed as a path toward de-escalation, it has drawn criticism from Western allies who argue that elements of the proposal could lead to modifications of Ukraine’s internationally recognised borders — a point of deep concern for Kyiv and its supporters.

Ukrainian officials have so far refrained from direct public response to Trump’s accusations, although sources within diplomatic circles suggest frustration over what is seen as pressure to accept concessions that undermine territorial sovereignty.

Growing Political and Diplomatic Tensions

Trump’s comments highlight widening divisions over how to bring the conflict to an end, particularly as the war continues to claim lives and strain global security frameworks. While his supporters argue that his hardline stance signals a renewed push for resolution, critics warn that the rhetoric risks complicating already fragile diplomatic efforts.

As negotiations progress, the question remains whether Trump’s peace initiative can gain meaningful traction or further polarise an already divided international response to the Ukraine conflict.
