WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said Saturday that his proposed 28-point framework to end the war in Ukraine should not be viewed as his final offer, signaling he is prepared to push for a rapid conclusion to the conflict while leaving room for negotiation with Kyiv.
“We are trying to end it one way or another. We must finish it. This should have happened a long time ago,” Mr. Trump told reporters before departing the White House. His comments suggest that Washington intends to accelerate diplomatic efforts even as uncertainties linger about Kyiv’s response.
When asked what he would do if President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine rejected the plan outright, Mr. Trump was blunt: “Then he can continue to fight his heart out.” The remark appeared to underscore both the administration’s desire for Kyiv to engage and its willingness to let Ukraine pursue the conflict on its own terms if it chooses not to participate in the initiative.

United States President Donald Trump said on Saturday that his 28-point peace plan for Ukraine is not his “final proposal” to Kiev.
Earlier in the day, Ukrainian officials announced that negotiations on the proposal between Washington and Kyiv are expected to begin in the coming days in Switzerland, marking the first formal discussions around the U.S. framework.
As diplomatic groundwork continues, the administration has given no indication of when a final version of the plan might be presented — or how much flexibility remains within the 28-point outline.
